Letter From Howard Shore.com

The following is forwarded from Howard Shore.com

European audiences, please keep an eye out for these counterfeit performances.

We at HowardShore.com feel it is necessary to alert fans and followers of The Lord of the Ring Symphony that there are a number of concerts touring Germany that have no association with Howard Shore. The promoter, Gastspiel- und Theaterdirektion Gerhartz GmbH, calls these concerts “Herr der Ringe von Howard Shore in Concert” in effect confusing the ticket buyer. Please be warned, Howard Shore has nothing to do with these concerts. The music that they play is assembled from commercially available sheet music.

This situation is frustrating and disheartening for Mr. Howard Shore and his associates, who are committed to presenting only the highest quality performances of The Lord of the Rings Symphony created by Howard Shore himself from his award-winning composition.

We realize it is often said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and we might agree, but unfortunately these performances discourage venues and presenters from booking Howard Shore’s The Lord of the Rings Symphony, thereby cheating concert-going fans of the experience of hearing the music performed live the way it was intended by the composer.

Please spread the word and thank you for your support.

Upcoming performance dates of music from The Lord of the Rings that have been prepared by Howard Shore himself for live performance are listed below. Any other concert performances of The Lord of the Rings music have not been prepared by Howard Shore. We continually update HowardShore.com as performances are scheduled, so check back regularly for new concert dates and locations.

Lucerne In Pictures

Thanks so much to everyone who has checked in from the Lucerne concerts. There have been some wonderfully detailed reports in the comments this week.

And now it's time for the pictures. This album will be updated regularly, so click the image below for the first installments. Watch this space for updates.

In the meantime, I'm slowly responding to all the kind emails I've received in the week. You guys are great! Really, I'm touched. I'll try to get to everyone, but it may take a day or two.

While February may have ultimately ended as a frustrating month for me, personally speaking, remember March is right around the corner. Hope springs eternal. More later...

-Doug

2/26 I've added some great new shots today, including pictures from behind the scenes and from a performing member of the chorus. Thanks to everyone who's sent pictures in! You can shots that have been sent to me by clicking here, or check out Sabsi's gallery here, or Livio's here. Also, be sure to check the Houses of Healing discussion board, where several attendees have posted their reviews. I'm going to add a few more in a minute... including a very special guest reviewer.

2/27 Yet more pics added!

2/29 Two more from Angela Zängerle at Art Productions.

From the Houses of Healing

Hi everyone,

Well, it’s been a terrifically frustrating week, but I can’t tell you how touched I’ve been by your kind notes here, elsewhere on the net, in emails and phone calls. I’m not quite back at 100%, but I’m at least able to focus my eyes (and mind) enough to get a few words typed out.

I’m happy to tell you I’ve been in touch with Howard, and we’re already looking at possible ways to make up our talks. Stay tuned.

In the meantime… though I know I feel a twinge of regret every time I read them… I need reports! If you were in Lucerne this weekend, please send your pictures, impressions and reviews!

Just click the “email” button at top right.

Right now, it’s time to let the meds kick in and to drift back to dreamland. But I’ll post again soon, I promise.

Thanks again everyone,

-Doug

Lucerne Still On... But No Doug Adams

Sad news: Doug Adams has been sidelined with bronchitis and is unable to attend the performances in Lucerne this weekend. He is currently under his doctor's care, and offers his most sincere regrets and apologies. He will return to posting once he is back to health.

LOTR Symphony in Singapore

With the FOTR Live performances so much in the limelight recently, it's easy to forget that the LOTR Symphony is still touring strongly. June 5 and 6, 2008 bring the work to Singapore.

It's fascinating to hear each performance of the Symphony bring something different to the table. Toronto brought an entirely different choral style, sweetly focused on portamento and vibrato. Cleveland's brass showed up with aggressively sharpened claws. In LA the strings brought the golden warmth of classic Hollywood scoring.

The combination of a Singapore orchestra and a Slovenian chorus promises to bring something entirely new. If anyone here attends, let us know what you think!

And now, I'm off to the doctor--I'm hoping my voice returns by this weekend or the Lucerne pre-concert talks are going to include a lot of enthusiastic hand gestures on my part. (I'm sure I'll pull through. Dr. Singh knows his stuff!)

Anyway, click here to visit the Singapore Arts Festival 2008 LOTR page and line up some tickets!

Lucerne Meet and Greets

.

Hope you’ve all been checking the Ongoing Discussion board this month. To say it’s been interesting is an understatement in the extreme.

Anyway, the count down to the right is now well into single digits. The Lucerne concerts will soon be upon us! I’m posting here so that people planning to attend the concerts can use the attached discussion area to announce their plans, and hopefully find a way to connect with one another.

So check your datebooks and click over to the discussion board attached to this post (please don’t use the Ongoing Discussion, as your comments are likely to go unnoticed in the midst of preexisting conversations). And I’ll let you all know where I’ll be as soon as I get a better idea.

-Doug

PS – If Lucerne is too great a haul for you this year, don’t worry, I still plan to do enough live blogging to make everyone feel a part, not apart.

Lucerne: Fourth Concert Added

After the first two Lucerne Fellowship concerts sold out, the concert organizers added a third on March 29. Now that that third concert is down to 160 remaining tickets, what do they do? Why they add a fourth concert, of course! So if Feb. 23 and 24 or March 29 have all passed you by, why not consider... Sunday, March 30! Click over to Art Productions and treat yourself!

In other news, I'll be out of town this weekend, but will return Monday, Feb. 18. I'll try to address some questions in the Ongoing Discussion before departing for Switzerland on Thursday, Feb. 21. Also, look for some possible live blogging from Lucerne... and with jetlag thrown into the equation, who knows what I'll end up posting!
